FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What will my child/teen receive with a virtual class/camp registration?
A full program with real-time, live classes, and experienced instructors
Smaller group sizes
Engaging and interactive, age-appropriate content
Personal support from our staff and administration
We will be providing required accounts, educational licenses, and software downloads for all activities (excluding Minecraft)
What equipment will we need to set up at home for VIrtual Classes?
A computer or laptop to work on their projects and participate in activities
A second screen that is large enough to view and follow along with the instructor’s lesson in the Zoom call. While a large tablet can be used for one of the screens, we highly recommend a second monitor if possible.
A microphone as well as headphones/earbuds to participate in the activities and communicate with their instructor
A reliable internet connection
A functional webcam or built-in camera is optional to participate in some activities (required for robotics and electronics classes)
We use Zoom to livestream our class activities, interact, and communicate with our students!
As a parent, do I need to stay in the room with my child/teen?
You will not have to stay in the same room during virtual classes or camp activities, but you may need to offer support if they experience connection or setup issues. Parent involvement is necessary (especially with our younger campers), but mainly with equipment setup and to help campers connect to our online camp activities.
What software will I require?
We will be providing the required accounts, educational licenses, and software downloads for all activities (excluding Minecraft for our virtual classes only). Campers are given access to any required student accounts during our in-person classes and camps!
For virtual camps and Minecraft classes, kids will require their own personal Minecraft Java Edition account, as accounts cannot be shared. Unfortunately, the Bedrock Edition and Pocket Editions of the game are not compatible the Java Edition, which we use for our activities.
If you need to buy a Minecraft Java Edition account, you can purchase it online here.
What should my child do during their scheduled break times on virtual camp days?
We ask that campers spend their break times away from all screens so they can rest their eyes and re-energize (please enforce this if possible)! We recommend that our campers use this time for bathroom breaks, to grab something to eat or drink, stretch, participate in offline activities, and/or get some fresh air!
